Temperature Transmitters

A temperature transmitter is an instrument that connects the temperature sensor (from a thermocouple or PT100) and transmits the signal to the receiving location for monitoring or process control applications.

Temperature transmitters isolate, amplify, filter EMC noise, linearize, and convert the input signal from the sensor into a usable 4-20mA output. The 4-20mA signal is the industry-standard interface for equipment such as PLCs or data loggers. The temperature transmitters are available in various forms, which vary from compact DIN rail-mounted units to programmable smart devices and compact versions.

Types of temperature transmitters?

Temperature transmitters come in different ranges and types of mounting methods. The most market standardized transmitters are head-mounted temperature transmitters that combine the transmitter into a connection head or housing of the sensor. Simple in design, and easy to install with minimal wiring.

Field mount temperature transmitters such as the SITRANS models from Siemens are designed to operate in the most demanding environments. This type is made from robust housings for extra security against the elements. Rail mount temperature transmitters are developed to be mounted on DIN rails and can be grouped in a panel for easy access.

Explosion-proof temperature transmitters are high-precision transmitters and are used in hazardous areas. They can be DIN or head-mounted transmitters with ATEX and or IECEx certifications.

How does a temperature transmitter work?

A temperature transmitter draws the current from a small DC power supply connected to the sensor input. Connecting the transmitter with a minimum of 2-wires.
