Certified MED Portable Gas Detector

Riken Keiki’s portable gas monitors have been certified to the latest version of the MED (Third recision for new MED, Jul. 2020) implementing regulations. With this certification, Riken Keiki has established itself as one of the few portable gas detection manufactures with a MED appliance on its products for the maritime market. 

What is Marine Equipment Directive (MED)

MED stands for marine Equipment directive. MED approved equipment is mandatory for EU flagged ships to comply with the MED Directive, and member states have an obligation to undertake market surveillance to ensure compliance. Products certified as meeting requirements of Marine Equipment Directive 2014/90/EU will be accepted by all European and most non-European flag states.

MED Certified Gas Detectors

At Riken Keiki, a broad range of detectors is MED certified such as;

• RX8000
• GX-3R (pending)

Take, for instance, the Riken Keiki GX-8000 portable gas detector. This detector is designed for usage on board of vessels. A lack of qualified MED instrumentation could cause the use of multiple detectors, higher management cost and long measurement times due to low pump strength. The Riken Keiki GX-8000 measures real-time detection of max. 5 ranges and is capable of the measurement of Combustibles 100vol%/100%LEL, O2, H2S & CO gases.

Or the new GX3R(Pro) portable gas detectors. This detector is expected to be MED approved spring 2021. The GX-3R is the successor of the GX-2009 and therefore the newest, smallest and lightest 5 gas monitor available. This model is very suitable for a.o.
