The two most frequently used types of valve actuators and controllers are; electric valve actuators and pneumatic valve actuators. Both types of actuators regulate the opening and closing of a valve. The actuator of a valve can provide either linear or rotary motion and works with different types of valves, including ball and butterfly valves. The benefit of a valve actuator is that there is no human interaction needed to operate the valve.

An actuator is the control mechanism that is operated by an energy source. So valve actuators can work by using gas pressure, hydraulic pressure or electricity, which allows the valve to be adjusted remotely or rapid operation of large valves, thereby allowing organisations to automate the system and improve reliability.
