The Riken Keiki RX-515, RX-516, RX-517 marine portable combination gas detectors are specially designed and developed for marine applications. When loading tanks are flushed with inert gases, the O2 content drops proportionally to some inert gases used. Catalytic EX sensors need a minimum content of oxygen in the sample gas to be able to measure combustible gases correctly. As this minimum content is not available, instruments with catalytic sensors are not suitable for conducting EX measurements in inert atmospheres.

A solution to this problem is to use infrared technology sensors (NDIR). Infrared sensors measure concentrations of combustible gases reliably, even if O2 is not present. With the Riken Keiki RX-515, RX-516 or RX-517 and, its NDIR sensor you are well suited for this kind of application.
